Multi-Phased Renovation Adds State-of-the-Art Operating Rooms
Situated within an occupied building, this complex renovation increases surgical capacity for Harborview Medical Center—utilizing Progressive Design-Build delivery to maximize team collaboration.

First and foremost, the concern on this project was protecting patient care and avoiding any disruptions to ongoing operations. This required a thoughtful multi-phased approach, starting with demolition and renovation on the fourth floor of the Patricial Steel Building to make way for the Sleep Clinic Program. This cleared the way to then demolish and renovate the existing Sleep Clinic into five new state-of-the-art outpatient operating rooms, adding to the existing 25 already in use.

Both of these projects required upgrading existing electrical systems to meet HMC's high operational and quality care standards. VECA upgraded electrical infrastructure to accommodate the new ORs and their support spaces. This was a collaborative effort with a healthcare-focused team, leveraging the Progressive Design-Build delivery model to provide creative and unique solutions that achieve the project's functional, aesthetic, and operational goals.
